Excursions from Dead Sea Hotels

Madaba, Mount Nebo, Baptism site

£46 per person

This morning tour starts with a visit to Madaba, known as the “City of Mosaics” where hundreds of spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics from the 5th – 7th centuries are scattered throughout the town’s churches and homes. In particular, Madaba is home to the famous 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land which covers the floor of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, built in 1896 over the remains of a much earlier 6th century Byzantine church. The tour continues to Mount Nebo, from whose windswept promontory overlooking the Dead Sea, the Jordan River Valley, Jericho and the distant hills of Jerusalem, Moses viewed the Holy Land of Canaan. From here you travel to Bethany beyond the Jordan to visit the site east of the Jordan River where John lived and was baptized.
